Comedian Sees Woman Paying for Gas with Pennies, Then Does This

Inspiring gesture reminds a hurting person of God's daily presence

A carload of young comedians was in the right place at the right time recently.

And because of that — and because of their big hearts, and their decision to act on their impulses — they helped out a woman in dire straits at a gas station, as Western Journal reported.

While it might seem like a simple gesture to spring for the gas in a stranger’s car, this woman had lost her husband that same week, so a kind and unexpected gesture clearly meant the world.

Carlos “HaHa” Davis (shown above left, and with his new friend on right) and his pals do more than make people laugh — they give to others whenever they can. Davis regularly films and posts to social media a segment called “I Love You,” in which he delivers a random act of kindness to a stranger.

They filmed the interaction they had recently with a gas station patron and then Davis tweeted the video. It spread quickly across social media, garnering over 95,000 likes and over 31,000 retweets.

It happened this way: Davis and some friends were at a gas station and noticed a nearby customer who was trying to use a gas pump. And one particular thing she was doing caught his eye.

She was trying to pay for her gas with pennies. The group of comedians quickly started forming a plan to help her out.

Davis climbed out of the van with what looked like several $100 bills — and walked over to the woman, holding the cash out to her.

“It’s not illegal,” one of the young men told her. “We’re comedians.”

Overwhelmed, the woman “just kept looking from one face to another,” as Western Journal noted.

“My husband just died a week ago,” the woman said, weeping.

“We weren’t like this before. I didn’t ask nobody for nothing. I didn’t … I didn’t even ask you.”

The comedians were obviously moved, too, as one of them can be seen wiping away his own tears.

“You OK,” Davis reassured her. “We got love for you. This is for you.”

“We gotta take care of each other,” his friend said.

She seemed baffled as to how they knew she had fallen on hard times.

“We heard you at the pump,” one of the young men explained.

“He told me you were paying for your gas with pennies, so I had to show love — it’s only right,” explained Davis. “We gotta stick together.”

Still obviously shocked, the woman offered an expression of faith amid her surprise.

“I guess He does look down … ” she said, trailing off through her tears. “He says He’s watching you and watching you.”

“He’s definitely watching over you,” Davis reassured her.

“This is so wholesome,” one commenter noted on Reddit, as Western Journal noted. “I love it. When the dudes cried, I cried.”
