Seven-Year-Old Girl Belts Out National Anthem, Goes Viral — What a Voice!

LA Galaxy soccer team calls her a club legend, while the International Champions Cup invites her to next year's match

Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja, an elementary school-aged singer, actor, pianist and model from Los Angeles, has been dubbed “Anthem Girl” after belting out a version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” on Sunday at StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Her performance captivated viewers at the stadium and all across the internet as well (the seven-year-old dynamo is pictured above).

The Los Angeles (LA) Galaxy professional soccer team has deemed her a “club legend,” according to Fox News, and the video of her performance has already been viewed 1.84 million times.

It has garnered enthusiastic accolades far and wide, with some even comparing her rendition to Whitney Houston’s flawless performance at 1991’s Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida, during the Persian Gulf War — thought by many to be the greatest of all time.

“Move over, Whitney!” said @ocdemgirl.

Tweeting from the organization’s account, the International Champions Cup called her performance “incredible,” saying, “We would love to have you performing at next year’s International Champions Cup!”

“That would be awesome” was the tweet response from little Tjandrawidjaj (whose account is managed by her parents, according to her Twitter bio).

Malea Emma, a trilingual Indonesian-American, is no stranger to performance. Her website is filled to the brim with similar and stunning renditions of everything from “Tomorrow,” from the musical “Annie,” to Radiohead’s “Creep.”

The 3-foot-9-inch showstopper also has an agent for her acting gigs; she has appeared in commercials for Progressive Insurance and Jeep, among others, said USA Today.

“She’s been singing forever. Basically before she could speak. Always singing,” her father told that publication, adding that her dream is to sing with Christina Aguilera.

“But for us, well, she is still pretty young,” he said. “We don’t know where this will end up going. We are just trying to introduce her to a lot of opportunities.”

For the LA Galaxy, the only five-time winner of Major League Soccer Cup trophies, the little girl may be something of a lucky charm; they beat the Seattle Sounders — who also praised the little girl’s stunning performance — 3-0 in Sunday’s match.
